I'm challenging you to discover a part of the National Park still quite UNKNOWN BY FOREIGNERS. The NATIONAL PARK OF PENEDA-GERÊS is located in the north-eastern part of Portugal, along the border with Spain. Besides lagoons, waterfalls, small untouched villages, cattle and shepherds, this is one of the places in Portugal where we have protected species of wild animals. The area you'll visit has a plus: cultural heritage, landmarks and villages where you'll witness UNTOUCHED RURAL AREAS. It also includes some, or a lot of walking/hiking to PRESERVED areas, providing a close contact with the land, animals, people, their traditions and way of life. With an easy and comfortable highway access from Porto, you'll spend the day around the villages of SOAJO and SISTELO. SOAJO is the place in all Portugal where we have the the most impressive concentration of odd granite farming structures - ESPIGUEIROS. The "Espigueiros of Soajo" are an icon, and national heritage, representing old farming traditions. SISTELO was already named by some visitors as the Portuguese “Tibet”. Local farmers, for centuries, used to organize their fields using terraces. That technique is still used today, giving the entire valley a peculiar and interesting look. ITINERARY - arrival to the village of Soajo, stopping for coffee and cake; - short walk through the village towards the “Espigueiros do Soajo”; - continue the tour towards LINDOSO (are of the park that meets the border with Spain); - lunch; - departure towards Sistelo; - time for the “TRAIL OF THE TERRACES”. It’s a 2,5 hours hiking trail with average difficulty level. Of course we can make a shorter one (there’s 7 to chose from) adapting the hiking to client’s condition or requests. Tours canceled more than 30 days in advance: full refund of the deposit. Tours canceled less than 30 days before the tour: no refund of the deposit. In any case, please contact me in order to re-schedule the tour or find a suitable option.
